AI Opportunity Mapping Workshop
Identify real, high-value AI improvements - and turn them into a prioritised, executive-ready action plan.
A half-day workshop that maps specific AI opportunities to your operation, department by department, and turns them into a prioritised 18-month roadmap.
If you know your business, you already know where it runs well and where it doesn't.
The scheduling bottleneck. The reporting that chews half of Friday. The quality checks that rely on one person's experience. The quote process that takes two days when it should take two hours.
The question isn't whether AI could help. The question is which opportunities are worth acting on, in what order, and what needs to be in place to make them work.
The AI Opportunity Mapping Workshop is a half-day facilitated session that surfaces those opportunities systematically, department by department, and builds them into a sequenced 18-month roadmap. It's designed for businesses that already have operational confidence and don't need a foundational readiness assessment - they need a practical plan.
Who This Is For
This workshop fits your business if:
You already know your operation - where it runs well, where it doesn't, and what would matter commercially if you could change it.
Your leadership team is aligned that AI is a priority - you're past the "should we?" conversation and into the "what and when?" conversation.
You're operationally mature - manufacturing, logistics, multi-site services, processing - or a professional services firm with strong foundations already in place.
You've got between 30 and 200 staff, owner-operated or professionally managed, with no dedicated CIO or CTO function.
You'd rather walk out with a sequenced roadmap than a readiness assessment.
It's probably not the right fit if your leadership team isn't yet aligned on AI as a priority, or if your business is still finding its operational rhythm. If either of those describe you, the quiz will route you to a better-fit starting point.
What You'll Walk Out With
The Opportunity Mapping Report
A full written report covering the complete opportunity landscape across the business, with opportunities rated on effort and impact, a phased 18-month roadmap with dependency logic, and specific recommendations for the next 60 days.
The Opportunity Mapping Briefing
A condensed companion covering the headline findings, top opportunities, and the roadmap at a glance. A faster read that stands alone - and pairs with the full Report when deeper context is useful.
A department-by-department opportunity landscape. Every function of the business - operations, sales, finance, compliance, support, marketing - is walked through systematically. Opportunities surface from people who do the work, not from a generic AI use-case list.
A prioritised, dependency-aware roadmap. Each opportunity is rated:
Effort (Low, Medium, or High) - the investment required to implement.
Impact (Low, Medium, or High) - the expected return in time saved, risk reduced, revenue protected, or capability gained.
Priority (Now, Next, or Later) - where it sits in a coherent sequence.
The sequencing isn't arbitrary. Every Now recommendation is either a prerequisite for what follows or a quick win that builds confidence. That logic is made explicit so your team can defend the order to anyone who asks.
Readiness Context
Where readiness gaps would block execution, we flag them. You don't leave with surprises - you leave knowing what has to be true for the roadmap to work.
How It Works
Step 1 - The Workshop (half day, in-person)
4 to 6 hours with your leadership team and, ideally, function or department leads. Facilitated on-site or at a Christchurch venue. We work department by department, using structured discovery prompts. Opportunities are surfaced, discussed, and initially rated in the room. We come prepared - our research on your business is done before we walk in, so the session opens at depth.
Step 2 - Analysis & Write-Up (2 weeks)
After the workshop we synthesise everything, apply consistent scoring across the opportunity set, build the sequenced roadmap with dependencies, and write both the Report and the Briefing. You review drafts before anything is final.
Step 3 - Delivery (virtual or in-person)
We walk the leadership team through the roadmap, the sequencing logic, and the Now recommendations. Questions answered. Suggested next 30 days clear. 60 minutes.
Investment
$4,500 + GST
Flat fee, all-inclusive. Half-day workshop, written Report, written Briefing, delivery session.
The Guarantee
If your leadership team doesn't walk away with meaningful strategic clarity, you don't pay.

Why Binary Refinery
Binary Refinery is an independent AI strategy consultancy based in Christchurch. Founded by Kat Mac - 20 years in technology, former GM at a nationwide NZ financial services organisation, MBA, board-level governance experience.
We don't sell tools. We don't take vendor referral fees. We have no allegiance to any AI platform, model, or software provider. That independence is what lets us tell you which of your opportunities are worth acting on, not which ones help us sell you something.
We work with NZ businesses of 30 to 200 staff, and we cover sectors that most AI consultancies avoid - manufacturing, processing, logistics, operational services - alongside professional services. The same framework adapts to any operation.
Critical Success Factor: Full Engagement
A successful workshop is built on focused attention and active contribution from every person in the room. To get the most value from this workshop, we need one thing above all else: your full engagement.
To set us up for the best outcomes, we ask that everyone:
Leaves laptops and phones aside.
Stays engaged for the full session - even when the conversation shifts between different parts of the business.
Shares their knowledge openly - the insights we need are already inside your organisation.
Different moments will resonate with different people. That’s intentional. The value comes from hearing how the pieces connect across teams and perspectives.
The brains trust is in the room. The more we hear from those brains, the better the decisions we can make together.
Note: while this workshop can stand alone, organisations who complete the AI Strategy & Capability Baseline first receive a more tailored analysis and significantly reduced on-site time.

Avoided spend and avoided missteps.
Efficiency and time savings.
Clearer, faster decisions.
Reduced risk across data, security, governance, and compliance.
Targeted investment in opportunities that actually matter.
Many organisations see value immediately through avoided cost, quick wins, or tighter alignment.
Binary Refinery’s incentives are aligned with yours:
our purpose is to get you value, so the process deliberately surfaces realistic, achievable quick wins to help you build momentum and bring ROI forward. -
Implementation can follow several paths:
Your internal team executes the plan.

Binary Refinery supports selectively with strategy, governance, vendor evaluation, or project oversight.
The roadmap is built to be actionable regardless of who implements it.
-
Most leadership teams spend 4–6 hours total, depending on the workshop. Binary Refinery does the heavy lifting - you simply show up ready to think, discuss, and decide.
No homework unless requested.
-
No. These sessions are designed for strategic decision-makers, not IT teams or data scientists.
If you’d like your technology leaders present, they’re absolutely welcome - but not required.
-
Yes. The frameworks scale up or down. Small and mid-sized organisations often see faster ROI because decisions are quicker and alignment is easier.
-
Great - the workshop will:
Pressure-test your current direction.
Confirm priorities.
Expose blind spots, duplication, or unnecessary spend.
Tighten sequencing and focus.
You don’t lose momentum, you sharpen it.
-
Binary Refinery works alongside your existing partners. We remain independent - no commissions, no preferred vendors.
Your IT provider is welcome to participate, and the resulting roadmap will make their role clearer and more effective.
-
Absolutely - and this is a core value point. A good AI roadmap doesn’t just look for new tools. It identifies untapped value in the systems you already pay for, including AI functionality or integrations inside platforms like Microsoft 365, CRMs, ERPs, ticketing systems, analytics tools, and more. Many organisations get faster ROI by fully using what they already own.
-
Implementation is entirely your choice.
Binary Refinery maintains independence - we never push products, platforms, or preferred vendors, and we never accept referral fees.
Your options include:
Your internal team, with Binary Refinery guiding simple in-house implementations (“teach the team to fish”).
Binary Refinery acting as a project advisor or strategic overseer on specialist AI initiatives.
External AI developers and AI engineers - and we’ll introduce reputable partners if you like (with zero financial incentive).
Your existing IT Managed Service Provider, where appropriate.
You stay in control. We help ensure implementation is strategic, safe, and aligned.
-
Every recommendation is:
Derived directly from your own leadership team’s inputs.
Scored through Binary Refinery’s value system.
Assessed across impact, cost, risk, effort, ownership, ROI, and prerequisites.
Finalised collaboratively so nothing ends up vague or unachievable.
You leave with initiatives that are well-sequenced, practical, and actually doable with your resources.
